Your Pre-Move Checklist for The Penny

From the day you sign to the day you unlock your new front door, here is everything worth doing ahead of time, organized by how far out you should tackle it. Because your apartment comes furnished, this list is shorter than a typical move, but a few things still need your attention.

Five stages between signing your lease and settling in

  • As soon as you sign
  • 4 to 6 weeks before
  • 2 to 3 weeks before
  • Moving week
  • Move-in day
Quick Answer
Before moving to The Penny on College Main, the main tasks are confirming your lease and guarantor paperwork, checking on renters insurance, updating your address with your bank and mail carrier, coordinating with roommates, and asking the leasing team about parking. Since apartments come furnished, most residents skip furniture shopping entirely. See the full stage-by-stage checklist below.
Stage 1
As Soon As You Sign
  • Save a copy of your signed lease and guarantor paperwork somewhere you can find it later.
  • Confirm who is listed as your guarantor and make sure their contact information is current.
  • Ask the leasing team whether proof of renters insurance is required before move-in, and by when.
  • Save the leasing office's number and email so questions are easy to send as they come up.
Stage 2
4 to 6 Weeks Before
  • Start a group chat with roommates to divide up anything for shared spaces and coordinate arrival times.
  • Shop for a renters insurance policy if you don't already have one through family coverage.
  • Check your current lease or dorm contract for move-out requirements so the two transitions don't overlap awkwardly.
  • Ask your bank, phone carrier, and any subscriptions whether they need advance notice for an address change.
Stage 3
2 to 3 Weeks Before
  • Submit a mail forwarding request to your new address at 415 College Main St, College Station, TX 77840.
  • Update your address with your bank, employer, school records, and any recurring deliveries or subscriptions.
  • Ask the leasing team about parking. The Penny offers both reserved and unreserved options for residents.
  • Make a packing list based on what your apartment already includes (see below), so you're not overpacking.
  • Order or set aside anything you'll need that isn't provided, like bedding, kitchenware, bath items, and decor.
Stage 4
Moving Week
  • Reserve a vehicle or ask for help if you're bringing more than a few boxes and bags.
  • Gather your ID, lease copy, and any insurance proof into one folder or bag for move-in day.
  • Confirm your move-in time and any building procedures directly with the leasing office.
  • Charge your devices and confirm your roommates' arrival plans one more time.
Stage 5
Move-In Day
  • Bring your ID and any paperwork the leasing team asked you to have on hand.
  • Walk through your apartment and note anything that needs a maintenance request, which you can submit through the resident portal.
  • Locate the package lockers on the first floor. That's where your deliveries will be held going forward.
  • Save the leasing office's contact information in your phone for quick questions during your first few weeks.

No. Each apartment comes with a furnished bedroom (bed, desk, chair, dresser, and nightstand), a furnished living room, and a full kitchen with appliances. Most residents only need to bring personal items, bedding, and decor.
Is renters insurance required?
Requirements can vary by lease. Check your signed lease agreement or ask the leasing team directly to confirm what's required before move-in.
Can I request to live with specific roommates?
You can list a preferred roommate on your application. Placement is not guaranteed and is subject to floor plan availability and management approval.
How do I submit a maintenance request after I move in?
Maintenance requests can be submitted anytime through the resident portal, accessible from the property website. The maintenance team reviews and responds as promptly as possible.
How will I get my packages?
Packages are delivered to parcel lockers on the first floor of the community, giving residents a convenient, contactless pickup process.
