Move-In Day at The Penny, Minus the Heavy Lifting

Nobody Remembers Move-In Day Fondly

You know how it usually goes. It's August, it's hot, and you're carrying a mini fridge up a flight of stairs while someone yells "pivot" behind you. Six trips later, your back hurts, your shirt is soaked, and you haven't even opened a box yet.

And that's assuming everything goes right. Somebody always forgets the box cutter. The elevator line is twenty people deep. The car you borrowed has to be back by four. By the time the last bag hits the floor, the excitement of a new place has turned into "I just need to lie down."

It's a rough way to start what's supposed to be one of the best years of your life.

At The Penny, we decided move-in day should feel a lot more like checking into a hotel and a lot less like a workout.

Meet White Glove Move-In

On August 1, 2027, Penny residents get complimentary white-glove move-in service from our local partner, Northfield Hauling.

Here's how it works: you pull up, and their crew takes it from there. Boxes, bags, that lamp you swore you'd get rid of. Everything goes from your car straight into your bedroom. You don't lift a thing.

It's free for residents, and it's something we created specifically for The Penny. You won't find it as an add-on or upgrade. It's just part of living here.

What Move-In Day Actually Looks Like

Picture this. You drive up to The Penny, car packed to the roof. Instead of hunting for a cart or texting friends to come help, you're greeted by the Northfield Hauling crew.

You point out what's yours. They unload it. While they carry everything up, you head inside, check out your new place, and maybe take a few pictures for the group chat.

By the time you walk into your bedroom, your stuff is already there. No sweat, no pulled muscles, no arguing over who's carrying the TV. You just get to start unpacking.

That's the whole point. Moving into a new apartment should feel exciting, not exhausting.

What You Get Back

The real perk isn't skipping the heavy lifting. It's the time and energy you keep.

Instead of spending the afternoon hauling boxes, you can actually set up your room the way you want it. Hang the string lights. Make the bed. Figure out where the desk goes. Go meet your neighbors, grab food, or just sit down for a minute in a place that already feels like yours.

Move-in day sets the tone for the whole year. We'd rather it start with "this is nice" than "never again."

A Few Tips to Make the Day Even Smoother

The crew handles the lifting, but a little prep on your end makes everything go faster.

Label your boxes. A quick "bedroom," "bathroom," or "kitchen" in marker saves you from opening six boxes to find your phone charger.

Pack a day-one bag. Toiletries, a change of clothes, chargers, sheets, and a towel. Keep it with you so the essentials are ready the second you walk in.

Bring a few basics. Scissors or a box cutter, a trash bag, and some snacks. You'll thank yourself later.

Plan your layout. Think about where your bed, desk, and dresser will go before you arrive. It makes unpacking a lot less chaotic.

Leave room for fun. Since you're not spending hours carrying boxes, make plans. Explore the community, meet your neighbors, or grab dinner somewhere new.
